Actor Tim Robbins and Actress Angela Bassett were the latest in a long string of Movie Stars to stop by New Orleans famous Maple Leaf Bar to hear the legendary Rebirth Brass Band entertain the packed bar Tuesday night.
Ms Bassett was delightful to talk to. She’s as gorgeous in person as on the big screen. She said she was in town filming a movie. Clearly, another sign of the growing number of films now shot in the Big Easy. Mr. Robbins clearly enjoyed himself with the beat of the music, socializing with the crowd.
Well known local musician “Trombone Shorty” was their host escorting and navigating them through the crowd and introducing them to the members of the band known for its funky brass band sound around the world. Trombone, is another one of those local musical treasures and always great to chat with him.
And that wasn’t all, I also ran into another familiar local musician, “Rockin Dopsie” making the rounds on the New Orleans music scene with the crowd loving his brief appearance.
It was a truly a New Orleans experience. Not to mention, it always makes you appreciate more what we have in this city, great music, food and culture. Every time I go out to events like that, its reinforced even more when the famous and not so famous tell us how lucky we are to have all of this great culture right in our own back yard.
